ETMarkets Investors’ Guide: Will Indian markets sustain outperformance against the world in 2022? | The Economic Times Podcast -India News Cart

Welcome to ETMarkets’ Investors Guide, a show about asset classes, market trends, and investment opportunities. This is Bhaskar Dutta.

Indian equities have been the envy of the world in 2021 with returns that have outperformed both advanced and emerging economy peers.

With money managers banking on strong earnings growth and revival in domestic consumption going ahead, valuations have reached record highs and have become a source of concern. Earlier this week, UBS India downgraded the country’s equities citing expensive valuations.

In order to understand if Indian markets will sustain their outperformance in 2022, ETMarkets’ Chiranjivi Chakraborty caught up with Mr. Satish Ramanathan, MD and CEO of JM Financial Asset Management.

Listen in!

Q. We have seen a mild correction in the market this week. Would you see it as a sign of more weakness going ahead or as an opportunity to enter the market?

Q. One of your compatriots in the industry recently said that investors are unable to recognize risk. Do you feel investors have jumped the gun in terms of pricing in the best possible scenario for corporate earnings and economic growth?

Q. This week we saw Asian Paints and HUL raise the alarm bells over high input cost inflation. Do you feel inflation could become a major threat to the ongoing bull market?

Q. India has outperformed its global peers in 2021, given that backdrop would you count on the outperformance to continue in 2022, too?

Thank you Chiranjivi and Mr. Ramanathan for a very intriguing conversation.

That’s all in this week’s special podcast. Do keep checking this space for more interesting content and take time out to follow our market podcasts twice every day. Stay safe and Happy Weekend!
